About AffiliateWP - Affiliate Area Tabs
Your affiliate guide is open to anyone who has the link
You write a page with the dates of the next promotion, the addresses worth linking to and the brand logos. It is material for your affiliates, but published as a normal WordPress page it can also be opened by people who are not affiliates. And if you hide it in an email, the new affiliate cannot find it.
Affiliate Area Tabs places that page inside the Affiliate Area, as one more tab. Once it is assigned, only affiliates can see its content, and anyone else ends up on the affiliate login page. A single action gives you two things: a fixed place to find it and a closed door for everyone else.
It is an AffiliateWP add-on and needs that plugin installed and active.
New tabs, yours and others', in one panel
- Custom tabs: each one links to a WordPress page, which is where you edit its content.
- Affiliates-only access: the assigned page is reserved for them.
- Simple editing: you can edit, add, hide or delete tabs.
- Drag-and-drop order: you move each tab into place and save.
- Default tabs: each one can be hidden with its checkbox.
- Tabs from other add-ons: those added by Direct Link Tracking or Order Details For Affiliates appear on the same screen and are hidden or reordered the same way.
What to put in each tab
Since a tab is a page, it takes whatever you put on that page. These uses give an idea of the scope:
- Request payout: a form so the affiliate can ask to be paid at any time.
- Contact: a form to write to you from the panel itself.
- FAQs: the usual questions, answered in one place.
- Important dates: promotions and days worth remembering.
- Links: landing or product pages, with each affiliate's referral URL thanks to the
[affiliate_referral_url]shortcode. - Leaderboard: the table from the Leaderboard add-on.
- News: notices for affiliates or links to blog posts.
- Brand assets: documents or images from the media library that do not fit the Creatives tab.
Two combinations to avoid
Affiliate Portal. If that add-on is active, the Affiliate Area Tabs content is not visible, because the two are not compatible. In that case, the way forward is Affiliate Portal's own custom menu links.
WooCommerce My Account. Do not add it as a tab: all traffic to that page would end up redirected to the affiliate login, your customers included.
Keep in mind, too, what this add-on does not provide. It does not create forms or content: it shows the page you have already prepared, and a payout or contact form comes from the forms plugin you use. Nor does it pay anyone by itself, since a Request Payout tab only collects the request you set up in that form.
Your first tab step by step
With AffiliateWP installed and active, activate the add-on and follow this order:
- Create the page with the content in WordPress, because it must exist before you assign it.
- Go to AffiliateWP, Settings, and open the Affiliate Area Tabs tab.
- Click Add New Tab, type the title and choose the page in Tab Content.
- Save the changes and drag the tab to its position.
- Log in as an affiliate on the page set as the Affiliate Area and check it.
Add-ons that extend the affiliate panel
AffiliateWP is the essential base. Among its add-ons, Leaderboard publishes a ranking of your best affiliates that can be inserted into a tab, and Order Details For Affiliates adds its own tab that you manage from the same screen.
If you would rather change the whole panel, Affiliate Portal replaces the Affiliate Area with an interface independent of your theme, at the cost of giving up this add-on while it is active.
Everyday usage questions
Can someone who is not an affiliate see the tab?
No. Only affiliates see that content, and everyone else goes to the affiliate login page.
Can I remove the tabs that come with AffiliateWP?
You can hide them: expand the tab, check Hide tab in Affiliate Area and save.
Where do I write the content?
On a normal WordPress page, which you then choose in Tab Content.
Can each affiliate see their own link?
Yes, if you place the [affiliate_referral_url] shortcode on the tab's page.
Does it work alongside Affiliate Portal?
No. With Affiliate Portal active, this content stops being visible.
