About Conditional Checkout Fields for WooCommerce
A WooCommerce checkout that asks everyone for the same thing ends up losing sales: the person buying a gift sees fields they don't need, the business buyer can't find where to enter a VAT number, and the customer ordering a custom product has nowhere to explain what they want. Conditional Checkout Fields for WooCommerce lets you decide which field each buyer sees, with no code.
A gift order, from start to finish
Picture a store selling customizable products. Here is how the plugin handles the journey:
- Step 1, the field. You create a checkbox field ("This is a gift"). There are 26 field types available, including text, textarea, select, date, file upload, color or telephone.
- Step 2, the condition. You set it so that, when the box is ticked, a card message and a delivery date appear. Within a condition group an "AND" relationship applies; between different groups, "OR".
- Step 3, the charge. You assign a price to the field: fixed, percentage-based or dynamic. That way gift wrapping or a priority service adds a fee to the order.
- Step 4, the order. What the customer types shows up on the order page, in admin and customer emails, on the thank-you page and in My Account. You can also see the fields as columns in the orders list.
A note on step 3: the fee depends on the field the customer chooses, not on custom tax rules. Check in the demo how the surcharge appears in the order summary before building complex pricing.
Different fields by product, category or role
This is the real advantage for a store with a mixed catalog: you can assign a field to specific products, categories or tags, or show it based on what is in the cart. You can also show or hide it by user role (customer, subscriber, administrator and others). A wholesaler's checkout doesn't have to look like a private customer's.
The default WooCommerce fields can be edited too: you change labels and placeholders, reorder them by dragging and hide the ones you don't use.
New sections in 16 positions
You don't have to cram everything into billing. You can create your own sections with a name and title, limit their visibility by product, category or role, and place them before or after customer details, billing, shipping, order notes, payment methods, terms or the submit button, among other positions. Custom sections work on both the classic and the block checkout.
Validating data and limiting payments and shipping
An unvalidated field is a source of orders with useless data. The plugin lets you:
- Create validation rules with regular expressions, with a pattern library and a preview of whether the value passes or fails.
- Require a field to be confirmed (for example, repeating the email).
- Apply input masks to text and telephone fields.
- Use an international phone field with a dial-code selector and per-country validation.
- Add a VAT number field with per-country EU format, VIES verification and automatic reverse-charge exemption.
- Restrict which payment gateways and shipping methods are offered based on a field's value.
Instant validation when leaving a field is designed for the block checkout. If you deal with intra-EU VAT, check with your adviser how the exemption applies in your case.
