About Elementor FES Builder Addon for MEC
A calendar open to organisers only knows what its form asks
You let others publish their events on your calendar. The first one arrives with no location, the second with no organiser details and the third with a title that says nothing.
On a collaborative calendar, the quality of each event is decided in the form, long before you review it. What is not asked for does not arrive, and what arrives half done falls to you to complete by hand.
Elementor FES Builder is a Modern Events Calendar add-on that lets you redesign the public event submission form with the Elementor editor: which fields appear, in what order, which are required and how they look. It does not work alone: it needs MEC and Elementor.
A submission form built with widgets
- More than 40 widgets: they appear in their own Elementor category, called FES Builder.
- Event details: the widgets cover the title, description, date and time, location and organiser details, among others.
- Required fields: each widget has its Required setting in the content tab.
- Free layout: you place the fields in the order you want, full width or in several columns.
- Your own style: the Style and Advanced tabs of each widget match the form to your site's design.
- Unlimited forms: you can create as many templates as you need.
Every missing field is data you will never receive
The change of mindset is this: here the form is made of what you add. A field without its widget does not appear on the public side, so nobody can fill it in.
The Submit Button widget cannot be left out either: without it, users cannot send the form.
Design only, Elementor only and no conditional logic
There is no conditional logic. The form cannot show or hide fields based on an earlier choice, so everyone using one form sees the same fields.
It only works with Elementor. It does not work with other page builders.
It only covers the form design. Letting users edit the events they sent depends on MEC's own submission functions, and this add-on is not needed for that.
It does not touch the booking form. It works with the event submission form, not the one attendees use to book tickets.
Test the use of several forms. You can create unlimited templates, but assignment is done by choosing one template from a dropdown in the MEC settings. If you need one form per event type, check it first on a test installation.
Requirements and getting the form running
You need Modern Events Calendar 6.0 or higher, Elementor 3.0 or higher, PHP 7.4 or higher and WordPress 5.0 or higher. Before starting, confirm that public event submission is available in your MEC edition. Then follow these steps:
- Activate MEC and the add-on. In the Elementor general settings, tick Events FES Builder in the post types section and save.
- In MEC, FES Builder, add a template, give it a title, publish it and open it with Edit with Elementor.
- Add one widget for each piece of data you want to receive, without forgetting Submit Button, and mark the required ones.
- In MEC, Settings, open Frontend Event Submission, choose your template from the dropdown and save.
- Send a test event and turn on Security Captcha in the MEC settings to curb spam.
Other catalogue pieces for events sent by third parties
This add-on starts from Modern Events Calendar, so the first thing is to have that plugin running.
To customise ticket booking, the piece is Elementor Form Builder for MEC: it creates tailored booking forms, but it does not change the add event form.
If what you receive from your users is not events, WP User Frontend Pro creates public submission forms with its own builder, custom post types and guest submissions.
Questions about the MEC submission form
Does it work without Modern Events Calendar?
No. It is a MEC add-on and needs MEC 6.0 or higher, plus Elementor.
Do I need it so users can edit their events?
No. That function comes from MEC's submission options, not from this add-on.
What do I do if an error 500 appears?
Raise the PHP memory limit to at least 512 MB. If it continues, review the server configuration with your hosting provider.
