About EventOn Reminders Addon
A scheduled reminder waits for someone to visit your site
You set a notice for sixty minutes before your workshop. It is Tuesday morning, your site is quiet and nobody comes by during that window. The email goes out late, perhaps once the workshop has started, and the settings still look correct.
On a low-traffic site, the time you enter is an intention, not a guarantee. EventON Reminders sends its emails through WordPress cron, which only fires when someone loads a page. If the reminder matters, the work starts on the server, with a real cron job, before you write the message.
This add-on automates emails to event guests, before the event starts and after it ends. It works on RSVP responses or Tickets attendees, so it does not collect guests by itself.
Four sends per event, each with its group and message
- Two before and two after: up to two reminders ahead of the start and two after the end, in both RSVP and Tickets.
- Time in minutes: each send has its own margin, counted from the start or from the end depending on the type.
- Target group: each reminder chooses who it goes to, for example those who said yes or no, or ticket holders.
- Opted-in guests only: in RSVP, each reminder can be limited to attendees who opted in.
- Your own subject and message: the text goes into the EventON email template and can be previewed from the settings.
- Event data: the
{event-name}and{event-link}tags are replaced on sending; RSVP adds{rsvp-yes-count}and{rsvp-no-count}, and the virtual link is supported.
A server cron job so the time holds
Saving an event with active reminders creates a one-time cron job for that event, which is deleted after sending. If nobody visits the site at that moment, the email goes out on the next page load.
The fix is a server cron job that calls wp-cron.php, set up through cPanel or SSH. The recommendation is every five minutes, or hourly if less precision is enough.
To check it, review the job with WP Crontrol or Advanced Cron Manager and send a test reminder.
Repeating events stay out
It does not support repeating events. If your calendar relies on a weekly class created as a single event with repeats, this add-on will not work for it.
It does not work alone either: without RSVP or Tickets there are no guests to write to. Also, each event needs its own activation. A new event without that switch sends nothing, even when the general settings are complete.
The path to your first reminder
You need the main EventON plugin and the RSVP or Tickets add-on. The path is this:
- Install and activate the add-on.
- Open the EventON settings, go to RSVP or Tickets and find the reminders section.
- Set the sender name and email. Left blank, the site name and the admin email are used.
- Enable a reminder and fill in the time, group, subject and message.
- Open an event, switch on the reminders you want in its RSVP or Tickets box and save.
- Run a test with an event of your own before using it with customers.
Pieces that complete or replace it
The two foundations of this add-on are EventON RSVP Events, for handling confirmations, and EventON Event Tickets, for selling tickets. Both run on EventON.
If you want a longer email series than two sends before and two after, FluentCRM Pro works with sequences and waits in days or hours, although it is an email marketing system separate from EventON.
Common cases in your calendar
Does it work with EventON alone?
No. It also needs the RSVP or Tickets add-on, because the recipients come from there.
Does it send at the exact time?
With WordPress cron it can run late on low-traffic sites. A server cron job reduces that margin.
Can I write a text for each reminder?
Yes. Each reminder has its own subject and message, set in the general RSVP or Tickets settings.
Can it send the link to an online event?
Yes, the emails support the event virtual link as dynamic data.
Does it apply to a class with weekly repeats?
No, repeating events are not supported.
