About GetPaid 2Checkout Payment Gateway

An invoice that repeats is a task that repeats

You charge your clients a recurring fee. Each time you generate the invoice, send it, wait and chase whoever is late. The amount never changes, but the work comes back with every due date.

As long as payment depends on someone opening an invoice and paying it, your recurring income is still a series of one-off sales you have to repeat. What changes that split is a gateway able to charge on a recurring basis.

2Checkout Payment Gateway is an add-on for GetPaid, the WordPress payments and invoicing plugin. It adds 2Checkout as a gateway, for both single and recurring payments.

Where 2Checkout appears inside GetPaid

GetPaid brings several ways of charging, and a gateway gives your clients one more way of completing them:

  • Payment forms: sell items through an inline checkout form on your site.
  • Buy Now buttons: place an item on your site so clients can buy it through the available gateways.
  • Invoices: you create and send them so clients can pay online, as a single or recurring payment.

If your clients arrive through a form, GetPaid can also send an invoice or a quote when it receives a submission from Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms or Ninja Forms. And other plugins can use GetPaid as their payment system, GeoDirectory among them.

Billing options originate in GetPaid

In GetPaid, an item can be one-time or recurring, and recurring items are handled as subscriptions. Items also allow free trial periods and prices set by the client.

The gateway includes the recurring payments feature, but these options originate in GetPaid. If your offer combines several, for example a subscription with a free trial, check it with 2Checkout in a test purchase before announcing it, and also review what the renewal invoice looks like.

2Checkout publishes test card numbers for these checks.

It only adds the gateway: the rest stays in GetPaid and 2Checkout

It does not work alone. It is an add-on for GetPaid and needs that plugin installed.

You need your 2Checkout account. The add-on connects your site with it, but does not create it.

It only connects GetPaid. For WooCommerce or other sales systems you need a different integration.

Taxes and reports belong to GetPaid. Tax management, EU VAT and payment data export are part of the base plugin.

Quotes are another add-on. They require GetPaid Quotes, and once accepted they become invoices the client pays online.

Enabling the gateway and making a test purchase

With GetPaid installed and a 2Checkout account open, the path is this one:

  1. Install and activate the add-on.
  2. Go to GetPaid, Settings, Payment Gateways, and enable 2Checkout.
  3. Enter the 2Checkout account details the settings ask for.
  4. Create a test item, first one-time and then recurring.
  5. Complete both purchases with a 2Checkout test card and review the status of each invoice.

Square, Mollie and 2Checkout outside GetPaid

Inside GetPaid, GetPaid Square Payment Gateway connects with Square, available in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom, and GetPaid Mollie Payment Gateway connects with Mollie, for registered businesses working in euros. If you charge with 2Checkout from another system, the catalog has Gravity Forms 2Checkout and Bookly 2Checkout Add-on.

Notes on 2Checkout in GetPaid

Does it work without GetPaid?

No. It is an add-on for that plugin and needs it installed.

Does it allow recurring payments?

Yes. It accepts single and recurring payments through 2Checkout.

Can it collect invoices?

Yes. GetPaid invoices are paid online through the gateways you have active.

Can I test it with fake cards?

Yes, 2Checkout has test card numbers meant for that.

Does it work for WooCommerce?

No. It connects GetPaid, so for WooCommerce you need a different integration.

Can I have other gateways at the same time?

GetPaid works with several gateways and lets you enable or disable each one.
