About Newsletter Webhooks Addon
When your subscriber list lives in two places and nobody syncs it
Your newsletter is in WordPress, but the CRM, the sales team's spreadsheet or the automation tool is somewhere else. Someone copies sign-ups and cancellations by hand every week, and one system ends up telling a different story from the other. Newsletter Webhooks Addon solves exactly that: when something happens in your newsletter, it notifies the address you give it over HTTP.
People who set up a newsletter usually think about sending and forget that every sign-up or cancellation is data other areas of the business need too. If that data takes days to arrive, campaigns go out with outdated lists.
Three events Newsletter Webhooks Addon can report
- Someone subscribes: the external system receives the person's profile.
- Someone cancels their subscription: the external system receives the notice.
- A newsletter is sent (on completion): you receive the sending data.
To configure a webhook you need the URL provided by the external system and the event you want to watch. You can define as many webhooks as you need.
What data travels in each call
For subscriber events, every field of the profile is sent. The main ones are: ID, email, first name, last name, gender, the lists the person belongs to (up to 40, with value 1 if associated and 0 if not) and the extra profile fields (up to 20, text). Other minor technical fields may also be included.
For newsletter events you receive the ID, the subject, the full HTML message, the number of emails sent, how many subscribers opened it and how many clicked a link in the body.
Who will benefit and how
If you have someone who codes
Your endpoint can receive the data as a standard HTTP POST (in PHP, fields such as $_POST['email']) or as a raw POST with a JSON-encoded body, which is read and decoded. For debugging, it helps to dump everything received to a file and see what actually arrives.
Calls are not immediate and something must receive them
Calls are not made in real time: they are scheduled to be sent as soon as possible after the event. This is a useful design choice, because a synchronous call could slow down the subscription process. But don't expect synchronization to the second.
Nor is it a ready-made connector: you need an external system with a URL able to receive the call. And it is an add-on for the Newsletter plugin, so it doesn't work on its own. The available events are the three listed.
Frequently asked questions
How many webhooks can I create?
As many as you need.
Can I test it without a real subscription?
Yes. Each defined webhook appears with a test button that builds sample data and runs the call.
Where can I see why a call failed?
The add-on stores its internal actions in a log, in the Newsletter system logs panel, with a technical explanation of the failure. Set the log level in the main settings; for testing, the debug level gives the most information.
What data format can I choose?
Standard HTTP POST or raw POST with a JSON body.
