About EventOn Include Anything Addon
Copying a page as an event leaves you two versions to maintain
You have a blog post about a launch, a signup page or a product, and you want it to appear on your site calendar. The obvious move is to create a new event and paste the text. That holds until a detail changes: you correct it in one place, the other stays the same and your visitor finds two versions of one thing.
A calendar needs a reference to that piece, not a copy. Include Anything places posts, pages and custom post types on the EventON calendar, next to regular events. The piece stays where it was, is edited from its own screen, and its link goes by default to its usual URL.
It is an EventON addon and needs that plugin active. Ticket sales and RSVP are not among its features: what it adds is presence on the calendar, with its own dates and look.
What you control on each included post
Everything is set in a box called Include in Events, on the post edit screen:
- Per-post switch: each piece is included one at a time.
- Date range: the post is only visible on the calendar during that period.
- Custom title: the text shown on the calendar row or grid.
- Subtitle: a second line under the title.
- Color: a HEX code to identify the post at a glance.
- Link: the permalink by default, with the option to change it to another URL and open it in a new window.
- Tracking code: an optional field for adding third-party code to that post.
- Hidden date and time: they can be removed from the calendar.
What can go on the calendar
Besides posts and pages, post types registered by other plugins also work. The clearest example is WooCommerce, which creates the products type, so a product can take a place in your schedule. If you use a plugin for courses, resources or portfolios, check on your site that its post type shows the box before planning around it.
Included posts sit alongside regular events and are subtly distinguishable from them. The title, subtitle and color decide how much that difference shows: a color reserved for publications helps separate them from appointments with a time and place.
The detail that leaves the calendar unchanged
Enabling the post is not enough. The calendar only shows it if its shortcode carries the attribute include_any="yes", which can also be turned on in the shortcode generator. If the site has several calendars, each with its own shortcode, you decide which ones receive these pieces.
Once the date range ends, the post stops showing on the calendar, even though it stays published on your site. And if you need to sell places with the tickets addon, create a real event.
Activating the addon and including your first post
It only asks for EventON installed and active; it needs no other plugins or API keys. The path is this:
- Update EventON and install and activate Include Anything.
- Open a post, a page or another content type, and find the Include in Events box.
- Turn the option on and set the date range.
- Adjust title, subtitle, color and link if you want to depart from the post values.
- Add
include_any="yes"to the calendar shortcode and check the result on the page.
The base plugin, tickets and other calendars
EventON is the base plugin, with recurrence and calendar views. If your schedule includes paid places, EventON Event Tickets adds ticket sales with WooCommerce. And if there is activity almost every day, EventON Weekly View shows a weekly grid.
Outside EventON, the catalog also has Modern Events Calendar and The Events Calendar Pro, which are other calendar plugins.
Requirements, products and links in Include Anything
Does it work without EventON?
No. It needs the main plugin installed and active.
Can I include WooCommerce products?
WooCommerce registers the products post type, and types added by other plugins can go on the calendar. Test the result in your store.
Can I change where the post links to?
Yes. The link points by default to its permalink and accepts another address, opening in a new window.
Why is my post not showing on the calendar?
Check that the date range is current and that the shortcode carries include_any="yes".
