About EventOn QR Code Addon

Scanning a ticket only opens a page on your site

The first person reaches the door, your helper points the phone at the code, and a screen asks them to log in. People are already waiting behind. The code worked fine: what was missing was on the site.

The EventON QR code takes whoever scans it to your site's check-in page, and that page needs a logged-in session and an authorized role. That is why door control gets prepared ahead of time, with the staff accounts and the phone each person will use.

QR Code adds the code to tickets and attendance confirmations, and handles check-in from a single screen. It is built to work with EventON Tickets or EventON RSVP.

One screen to decide who gets in

  • Code in the confirmation: the QR code sits inside the ticket each customer receives by email, and can be shown on a phone or printed.
  • One-button check-in: after scanning, one click marks the ticket, and another unchecks it if someone was checked in by mistake.
  • Same order: the other tickets in the order are checked in from that same screen.
  • Details in view: holder, event, quantity and location, plus Booking, Seats and Variations & Options data when those addons are installed.
  • Full RSVP data: it shows custom fields and supports the waitlist status.
  • Status colors: the result changes color based on ticket status and type.
  • Encrypted tickets: it accepts the encrypted ticket numbers from EventON Tickets.

Three ways to read the code at the venue

Phone: with the camera or a QR reader app that opens the link in the browser. If the app uses its built-in browser, you need to log in there as well. HTML5 web scanner: reads from the browser, with no extra app, and is still in beta. Scanner gun: for checking guests in at the gates, with its own option in the addon settings.

The [evo_qr_checkin] shortcode turns any page into a check-in page, and the colors of that screen are set in the appearance settings.

For a custom app there is a REST API with four routes: event list, attendees of an event, details of one attendee, and check-in by ticket number. That last route also reports when the order was refunded.

Pieces left outside the addon

Selling and confirming. QR Code does not sell tickets or collect attendance: Tickets or RSVP do that.

The reader app. The addon does not include a scanner app for the phone, so you need to choose one or use the web scanner.

Searching by name. If someone arrives without their code, fast guest lookup by name belongs to the Check-ins addon, a separate product. With QR Code, the fallback is to open the ticket in Events > All Event Tickets and press the Check-in button next to its ID.

Getting check-in ready with your team

You need EventON and either the Tickets addon or the RSVP addon, plus a reader app or a scanner gun if you will not read with the camera or the web scanner.

  1. Install the addon and enable QR codes in the EventON settings.
  2. In EventON settings > QR Code, enable the roles of your staff.
  3. If you want your own check-in page, create it with the shortcode.
  4. Generate a test ticket and check that the email carries the code.
  5. Rehearse at the venue, with the phone and account of whoever will work the door, since every scan has to reach your site.

Door control on other foundations

Within EventON, EventON Event Tickets sells tickets from the calendar with WooCommerce and EventON RSVP Events adds confirmations without payment. One of the two is the base for this addon, and both start from EventON itself.

If your tickets come from FooEvents, FooEvents Express Check-in checks people in from the browser, searches ticket data and accepts USB or Bluetooth readers and QR codes. It requires FooEvents for WooCommerce.

Answers for event day

Does it work with EventON alone?

No. It also needs the Tickets addon or the RSVP addon.

Who can scan?

Administrators, and any other roles you enable in the QR Code settings.

What happens if someone reuses the same ticket?

The check-in page warns that the ticket is already checked in.

Does the attendee have to print the ticket?

No. The code can be read on their phone or on paper.
