About GetPaid > AffiliateWP Integration
A commission is defined by the payment that triggers it
You open an affiliate program, pick a percentage and publish it. If you sell a one-time payment, that is it. If you sell subscriptions with GetPaid, there is one more decision: does the affiliate earn on the first sale or on every renewal as well? They are two different programs, with different costs.
The percentage is half of the offer; the other half is which payment triggers it.
AffiliateWP Integration connects GetPaid with AffiliateWP: when someone arrives through an affiliate link, AffiliateWP creates the referral record, and the affiliate earns a commission when that referral converts into a sale. Its features do not include commission on renewals, and GetPaid is not among the integrations covered by Affiliate Recurring Referrals. So it is wise to word the offer around the sale and check what happens on a real renewal before promising anything more.
What each of the three pieces brings
- GetPaid sells: Buy Now buttons, inline payment forms, invoices the customer pays online, and one-time or recurring items, with free trials.
- AffiliateWP runs the program: applications, referral tracking, commissions, payouts and the area where each affiliate sees their links, referrals and earnings.
- This add-on joins the two: it enables GetPaid as an integration inside the AffiliateWP settings so referrals are recorded automatically.
What this add-on leaves to AffiliateWP
Installing it alone creates no program. It needs AffiliateWP installed and active, as well as GetPaid. Without AffiliateWP there is nowhere to configure the integration.
Affiliate screens, rates and payouts are set in AffiliateWP. If you need a different commission per item, bear in mind that Affiliate Product Rates works with Easy Digital Downloads and WooCommerce, and GetPaid is not one of them. First test how the commission is calculated with your items.
Four program rules you set in AffiliateWP
- Rate: chosen per affiliate, which lets you offer different terms to whoever sends you the most.
- Admission: you review applications, approve affiliates and sort them into groups.
- Self-referrals: rejected by default. You can also flag them for review or allow them.
- Payout: PayPal, Stripe or store credit for each affiliate, or let each one choose.
AffiliateWP also credits sales by coupon code. If you use GetPaid discount codes, check that case separately before offering it to your affiliates.
Required versions and activation in AffiliateWP
- WordPress 6.2 or higher.
- GetPaid 2.5 or higher.
- AffiliateWP 2.5 or higher.
With all three plugins installed, activation happens from AffiliateWP:
- Go to AffiliateWP, Settings, Integrations.
- Tick the GetPaid box.
- Save with Save Changes.
- Create a test affiliate and copy their link.
- Buy an item through that link from another account, because self-referrals are rejected by default, and confirm the referral appears.
- If you sell subscriptions, repeat the test with a recurring item and check what is recorded on renewal.
Other add-ons around GetPaid and AffiliateWP
The essential piece is AffiliateWP. Affiliate Recurring Referrals handles commission on renewals, but with other integrations, such as WooCommerce with Subscriptions, Easy Digital Downloads or MemberPress: if that rule is central to your business, look at that list before choosing what to sell with.
If you are staying with GetPaid, two add-ons cover other gaps: PDF Invoices attaches the PDF invoice to emails, and Square Payment Gateway adds payments through Square in the countries it supports.
Questions before connecting GetPaid with AffiliateWP
Does it work with GetPaid alone?
No. It also needs AffiliateWP installed and active.
Where is it activated?
In the AffiliateWP settings, Integrations tab, by ticking the GetPaid box and saving.
Are referrals created by hand?
No. Once the integration is active, AffiliateWP creates the record when someone arrives through an affiliate link.
Does it pay commission on renewals?
Its features do not include recurring commissions. Test a renewal before offering them.
Why did my test purchase not generate a referral?
If you bought through your own link, that is expected: AffiliateWP rejects self-referrals by default. Repeat the test from another account.
